About Us

Pastor Marvin Owen James was born in Madera, California. He graduated from Edison High School where he ran track and became the Valley Champion in the 100-yard dash—accomplishing a record that still stands today. 

He went on to attend California State University, Bakersfield, with dreams of competing in the Olympics. When that path didn’t unfold as planned, he chose to serve his country by joining the Armed Forces. His time in the military came with great challenges, including a season of incarceration. But even in the lowest moments, God was writing a greater story.

After his release, Pastor James found employment and met a wonderful woman named Roberta. Roberta who had two wonderful sons—Alonzo and Antoine—introduced Pastor James to Christ in 1987. They were married in 1988 and went on to complete their family with the birth of their daughter, Angelica James. Together they’ve built a legacy of faith, love, and purpose. 

Pastor Marvin and First Lady Roberta James have been a part of New Kingdom Church of God in Christ for over 21 years and have faithfully served as pastors for the last 13 years. Their testimony is one of redemption, restoration, and unwavering commitment to God’s call. To God be the glory—He has truly been good! 

First Lady Roberta James was Born in Melville Louisiana on April 26. Her family relocated to Fresno, California when she was just two years old. She later graduated from Washington Union High School and went on to earn her B.A. in Child Development from Fresno State University. 

Lady Roberta began her career as a teacher at Franklin Head Start, where she met Pastor Marvin Owens James. The two fell in love and were married in 1988. At the time Lady Roberta was a devoted mother to her two sons, Alonzo and Antoine. Four years into their marriage, First Lady Roberta and Pastor Marvin James completed their family with the birth of their beautiful daughter, Angelica.

Today First Lady Roberta James is the owner and operator of James Royal Kids Daycare, a business rooted in her passion for early childhood development. She continues to serve faithfully alongside her husband as First Lady of New Kingdom Church of God in Christ. Together, they have shared 33 years of marriage, ministry, and purpose—sewn together with love, faith and commitment, proving through their testimony that “with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)
